We'll always have Pymol...

It's a sad week for structural biologists everywhere. The creator of one of the few open-source molecular visualization programs, Warren Lyford DeLano, has passed away at the young age of 37.

Thanks for getting me through my Ph.D., Warren.

Someone please explain this one to me.

Now, I have no problem with the Yankees >$200 million payroll willing them the World Series, or "Mike" Bloomberg taking the mayoral election after a hundred million dollar campaigning effort (OK, maybe I have a little problem, but we live in a capitalistic society, what are you going to do?), but this just seems ridiculous. I know Citigroup employs a ton of people, but MSKs employment figures don't include the PATIENTS. You know, the ones with severely weakened immune systems due to chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Grrrr.

Business Cheese is back.

Business Cheese's friends are growing up. Rather than fleeing the lab and responsibilities for last minute trips to Austin or Chicago, or debaucherous weekends in NYC, they are getting married, procreating, moving to upstate Manhattan, and getting real jobs.

We're not the wild and crazy kids we were a few years ago and that's OK. Business Cheese's crew is now older and wiser. Besides, who wants to re-live graduate school again anyway? Yeah, not me.

To start off the new and improved Cheese, I thought I'd share this awesome visual on the relative sizes of interesting biological bits.
